ELA
During my first two years of being in ELA, I had the opportunity of planning and participating in service projects at the North Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch in Bismarck. After planning our time with the young people at the Ranch, we traveled out to their campus and participated in our planned activities with them. The young people enjoyed playing games in the gymnasium as well as learning new games and activities to do in the classroom.
This past year of ELA, I was gifted the opportunity to plan our mentor appreciation banquet with a classmate. The two of us organized the meal, setting, and activities. The evening was filled with wisdom, laughter, delicious food, and excitement as we met our new professional mentors,.
The largest project our class took on was the pen pal project with the fifth grade class at the Lincoln Elementary School. My classmates did a rigorous and influential job as they put all of the project's pieces together. It was such a gift to have been able to write back and forth with three fifth grade girls. At the beginning of March, I was able to attend lunch with the fifth grade class and meet my pen pals in person. It was so encouraging to witness the influence our letters were having on such young people.
I was preparing to give a presentation to the fifth graders at the Lincoln Elementary School on either grit or time management. Unfortunately, the presentation was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Day of Service
The University of Mary gives faculty and students an entire day off from classes to provide an opportunity for everyone to use the day to serve the Bismarck and Mandan communities. I spent my first Day of Service at St. Vincent's prosper community home. My group completed the ground work outside of the building. My second Day of Service was spent stuffing envelopes at United Way. My most recent Day of Service involved sorting donated clothing at the ARC Thrift Store.
Retreats
The North Dakota Youth Correctional Center is located in Mandan. I have visited the correctional facility to help put on retreats multiple times over the past few years. My service included leading small groups, giving talks, and leading activities. I have learned so much about the human condition and the capacity for love and mercy during my visits to YCC.
I have also assisted the University Ministry Team with putting on many retreats in Bismarck and the surrounding communities. It is one of the most rewarding things to be able to witness other people coming to know themselves and God in a deeper way.
Local Ministry
By spending hours at the Heaven's Helpers Soup Cafe, Ministry on the Margins, and the Trinity Lutheran Banquet, I have been given countless blessings. I have met some of the most interesting and caring human persons. The conversations and prayers had during these times of service will always be held close to my heart.

Resident Assistant
Even though working as a resident assistant was a paid position, I still learned an overwhelming amount about what it means to be a servant leader. My five semesters as an RA challenged me to grow in selflessness, leadership, creativity, assertiveness, gentleness, and so much more. I was also in awe of how much influence a seemingly small leadership role can have on the surrounding community. It was a beautiful experience to witness the growth of so many young women.
